5/5/2014

Alright well, good news is it will be really easy to connect for skype on mothers day because I am going to start working in the mission office starting tomorrow president called me yesterday and let me know that I am going to be taking care of finances in the office most likely until I finish the mission. It is very strange that they called me into the office with the small amount of time I have left and they made the change two weeks early so I was very very surprised. I will have a very crazy schedule from now on and have to help alot with transfers. The good part is that I should have a really easy time with finding a computer where I can skype the family I just have no idea what my schedule is like now so I cannot tell you exactly when yet I will tell you as soon as I can. I am happy, but also sad because we found the most awesome family and the mother and father went to church yeterday and the mom asked the Bishop in a class what she had to do to be baptized and how soon, then she bore an amazing testimony in relief society.. all of the sisters are asking us if they can go and visit her with us. and trust me that is not common in the mission for sisters or members in general to ask. The family loved the church and I am certain that some point in the future they will be baptized.I am happy that I left some cool investigators for the next Elders.

I have a goal for before I get home I want to read the Book of MOrmon two more times and doctine and covenants once before I get back. I am Excited because my companion will be Elder Tirado he is the elder that was in the same house with me in Los Llanos in San Pedro. He is an awesome Elder . I am super happy to hear that prom went well... However I would like to see the picture of how brittan looked with Jordan? haha how did they match?;) Fast and testimony meeting was a blessing yesterday it really is a blessing every month I love it I love being able to fast and donate to those who need more than I do. I am Very happy and I love you all and pray for you often. I will write you next week Love you! :)

4/28/2014

A little thought from Elder Bell on being careful while using social media, especially sending messages to people and not telling them it is us.  Brea was sent some messages by a good friend this week that really scared her and her sweet friend was in a lot of trouble for trying to be funny.

We don't always think clearly before we do what we do. that is a little freaky about what was going on with Brea. Satan is tricky whatever thing we do anonimously we should think it through really well because we are not ourselves when people don't know what we are doing or when we have a mask on. We have to be the same person in the dark that we are in the light.

I Love being a missionary I know that I have been ordained to preach to those who are ready to receive. I feel spiritually rejuvenated.. if that is how it is spelled, and I am going to be finishing on a tank full of gas I don't plan on coasting. I don't ever want to just coast in my life ever again. We had to leave a lot of investigators behind. they stopped doing their part. It hurts really bad, but if they can't commit themselves then there is nothing else we can do for them besides invite testify and promise blessings.

I am super excited for Bay's graduation announcement I think I do get to skype really soon I will let you know next monday when. I am going to mow lawns when I get back ! :) and I am a little tired of this heat haha it is getting hotter every day I hope I come back white and not sun burnt. Love you Mom and DAd and Baylin and Brittan! have a great week!

04/21/2014

This is Denise, Elder Bell's mom.  As you can see, Brennan really didn't write too much this week. Actually, Brennan, when you read this, go to your file on my email account and read what you sent me.  It was personal in nature, it was written to his dad and I and because of this I chose not to share it on this public site.    But this is what I can share publically.  He can't just come out and say when he will return home, oh no way, he has to make me do the math and figure it out.  He has 4 weeks left in this transfer.  4 weeks and 4 weeks and 8 weeks and 6 weeks!  Ugh 5 and a half months left.  I was sure we were down to less than 5.  Such a small amount of time in the whole picture really though and he is soooo happy.  I wouldn't want to rush the Lords time!

Are you telling me I don't get to go to Stihl's fairwell?! dang it well I am happy for him I hope he loves his experience.

The week of easter is crazy here lots of people getting drunk and filling up big inflatable pools and putting them in the street and partying. Sometimes I feel that my spirit gets exhausted here because of all of the craziness it isn't easy in moments to deal with all of the noise.

Our transfers are still every six weeks. However, the next transfer will be four weeks because we are getting a new mission president. Then the next transfer will be eight weeks and I will finish on one last transfer of six weeks. It really is a long time, but compared to the time I have spent here it is nothing. Love you both say hi to everyone.

Also, if you get time I am getting worried that my contacts aren't going to last the rest of the mission because the last pair was broken when I opened it. If you could send me a few pairs that would be excellent. My prescription is -1.25 Love you have a good week :)

4/14/2014

We have a ton of sisters we have eight. I am still in the same area so not a lot has change we still have a nice chapel and the only missionaries that have a car in the Dominican Republic are the elders that work in the office. The zone has much more excitement now because they moved a bunch of elders that weren´t doing much to other areas.

wow good to know she, Jessica his cousin, got married after it happened haha how old is her husband?

The new members in the zone are awesome it has only been a week so we are still trying to get to know them. I really apreciate fast sunday because I was needed some spiritual nourishment and I definately feel that I received what I needed to keep me alive and working hard and happily.

I got a hair cut with scissors for the first time in a while today so my head doesn´t look quite as weird still though feels different.  I am doing pretty well just really trying to continue to learn at times I feel that I am not as humble as I should be so I am going to be working more on being humble and studying and praying a little about that. I read an article that I really enjoyed about having our eye single to the glory of God in this months liahonna  and I enjoyed it a whole lot.

I hope that everything goes well as you are all coming to the end of the schol year. I do have a question about something though.... what happened to the Little Rams Wrestling club? does it still exist orrr? just curious.

The mission is a great experience and a wonderful way to find out what we really care about and learn how to not be selfish.  Usually if I feel unhappy it is because I am thinking and acting selfishly.  I love you all a bunch and hope that this week treats you well. Love you mom and dad. Love, Elder Bell

Just Kidding, heres the letter 4/7/2014

Well for the first time in my mission I get to stay in an area for more than three months ha I am a little bit nervous now because I am used to changing so often I hope I don´t start to just fall into a routine in the things I do.

Conference was great, however I miss hearing the actual voices of the Prophet and the apostles sometimes instead of an interpreter. I am with my same companion Elder Martinez from mexico. We are doing well, sometimes we are pretty awkward as companions, but we both have desire to work and help each other to be obedient. In this last conference I did not have any huge moments where I was totally blown away. That is how all the other ones have felt up until this point. This time I just felt good there was one talk that spoke about a topic that I needed to hear I had been thinking about that topic for a large amount of time and everything that was said in the talk was familiar to me I had been studying it. That talk was definately a confirmation of the truthfulness of what I wanted to have a stronger testimony of.

Our zone just got changed up a lot and I am a little relieved because more than half our zone were elders that were with more than eighteen months that were just dead and some of them kind of negative all thinking about going home. I don´t know what it is about that last six months, but to me that is still a very long time and I don´t get why some people think it is so little. The fact is that we still have to live day by day or we will let the time slip by and often lose time and precious moments if we are too worried thinking about the future then we might find ourselves robbed of today. Of course our goals and future desires are very important we must think of them and review them.I am grateful for the freedom to choose and make goals. When I haven´t had goals in the mission is when I have had difficulties and have felt sad or stressed out.

I loved the talk that talked about the joy of carrying burdens and I can´t remember who said it, but I know it is true that resistence on our back that strengthens us reallly lifts us up. I also  loved the talks about the restoration and the statement that there will always be more opposition against the truth because it is the truth.

I finally am working out every day again... almost ha I have struggled with that because I feel like we are constantly moving and it is at times crazy to see how much we can do in just one day if we are determined and active and value our time. Thank you for writing me. It is uplifting for at times I feel very distant and isolated. I have been gone from my real home for a while. It seems like a dream that I was there. Love you, Elder Bell

New Pictures :) No letter :(

03//31/2014

This week went well. Many of the lesson were very inspired and the baptisms at seven a clock sunday morning were so special I have pictures I want to send, but my memory card adaptor is not working in the moment. I may be buying a new one soon.

We had three baptisms sunday morning at seven a clock so we had to get up and call people at about five and it actually went really well it was a very nice experience being in the chapel early in the morning. The only thing that didn't go as planned was we didn't have the keys to the baptismal font so I got the privelege of climbing over the glass in front and opening the doors. It was pretty original. The Names of those who were baptized are Mercedez, Waldi, and Wuascar. Mercedez is sixty and Waldi is eleven his little brother is 9 years old. Waldi has been a great example for his little brother and really has a very strong testimony of the Book of Mormon. I find it very curious that the strongest spiritual moments I have had in the mission are often related to a child bearing a very small testimony. Sometimes I feel like I look all over the place trying to strengthen my testimony and just feel frustrated. Because at times I want to force myself to feel the peace the Holy Ghost brings and then in the moment I don't expect anything I have a small yet profound moment that calms me, and reminds me that I have felt what these people have felt before. There is a scripture in alma29.. I think verse 8 somewhere around there that explains what I mean and have felt.

This transfer ends next monday. If they transfer me again I will be very sad I love this area and want to stay. Although at times it is a very hard place to be because we are at the point where there are really great friends that are not really trying to push themselves or go to church and we need to move on looking for other people. The people in the country get attatched very quickly it is hard to explain to them why we will not be visiting them as often for the fear of offending them.

I Got some pictures and a card from Grandma and Grandpa Bell please thank them. I am very excited for general conference this weekend it should be a very great experience and it is my last GC for a while as a full time missionary. I will definately be looking for guidance as to what I need to be doing at this point of my life. I like the pictures of brittan's bald head ha he actually looks pretty good like that haha. I am trying to start a card to write to you all, but it has been very difficult to have time because of some of the troubles that we are having with missionaries in our zone we don't get a whole lot of personal time. I saw cole's pictures and he looks pretty happy he sent me a pretty long email this week filing me in on what's going on I appreciate that from him. We are all keeping in touch as we serve our missions it has been a cool experience. Love you have a great week :) elder Bell

03/25/2014

This week was very hard we had a difficult experience with one of the people that was going to be baptized she has no problem with any commandments or anything however she has had a ton of opposition in the last two weeks and has had many people straight up tell her that she shouldn't get baptized. I guess we will see if she decides she will get baptized this week .If not I am worried that she won't be able to overcome the adversity that she has right now.

I have had a good time reading in Mosiah I read from chapter 5 to 16 this week and I learned quite a bit.

The happiest moment this week was when I had a lot of things I was worried about with the baptism and I was trying really hard just to be happy and as I read the scriptures I didn't necessarily feel a huge impression however I did have my mind feel cleared and I felt like a whole lot of stress was lifted from me.

This week there will be three baptisms at seven a clock in the morning.. don't ask why. there was just no other choice haha. So I am going to write you a letter this week since my letter wasn't quite as long and there is just too much to say. I love you and hope you have a great spring break :)

03172014

Well I am working hard and loving the mission. Things are going well. Right now we are having success it has been hard on me with all of the exchanges we have we have companionship exchanges twice a week because there are a few problems in the Zone.

We went to the templeThis last week and I loved it the experience was wonderful after not entering for sixteen months. The covenants we make in the temple really help me have a good perspective on what is important in this life. I know that what I learn and who I am with makes a big difference in the attitude that I have and the goals that I have although it is not always very clear to me what my goals are and exactly what I want to do. I Want to learn to work hard and trust that the Lord will have prepared for me what I need and will prepare a way for me to be happy.

It was really cool to hear about you and mom's trip I am so glad you had fun. I feel really weird being adapted to this life. Please don't ask me about flight plans until I have one month left.  I don't want to think about that moment until it comes and we usually don't get told untill the last two months anyway.

I feel like I need to be humble and be ready for the changes that will come throughout my life. Sometimes I feel like I get tested very hard in my faith. I know that our faith must be tested and shall always be tested because it is what gives us hope. I don't believe That there can be any hope unless we remember Christ and all that he has done for us and remember that there is life after death that we will receive our award according to our works. He will fight for us as we fight to remember him. and we have to be sincere with our heavenly father in our prayers and at times he will humble us. Especially if we forget him after what he has given us. I have experience the pride cylce in my life when things go good in my world I think all about me. Then somethings changes and makes me realize that in all that time That I was thinking about myself I forget who I am serving as I am passing through this short test phase of life.

I love you both very much I want to return to heavenly fathers presence and stand before the judgement bar knowing that I have given my mortal life to Him who allowed me to be who I am and decide what I wanted to do with it. Super excited for conference it will be a great time to think back on this last six months and see if I applied what I learned. and them get ready to finish this last six months strong. Love, Elder Bell

03/10/2014

This week went well although I feel like there is a whole lot of work to do and some people are frustrating me with their agency... It is just strange we have some people that investigate and live the commandents and even testify that this is all true and that it has helped change their lives, but they just can't commit to get baptized. There is not much we can do about that and it is something I need to understand better, but sometimes I begin to wonder if I did something wrong or the person felt pressured or we didn't follow the spirit as we invited them. I don't know. I am very excited for the two people getting baptized on the 22nd of this month they have really done their part and it is amazing how much they have spiritually progressed in such a short amount of time.

I am very excited for the temple trip we will have as a zone this thursday that will be the first time I have done and endowment session since I was in the MTC.

So, I have enjoyed making notes about the chapter headings in the book of Moses and then after doing that I have in mind what I would like to study and look for while I am reading the chapters. I have also read the 105th section of doctrine and covenants and I like verses 5 and six alot.

My comp likes to get up early and read so I just exercise a little in the house. The schools are the same here the school day is just shorter and the best schools are the catholic schools.

I love this ward it is extremely organized compared to where I have been I don't have a calling which has been nice we just go out and teach and often times members come with us and it is so much better that way. The spirit when members are there is awesome.

I think I am losing weight again. We are working really hard and use our time really well so that involves alot of walking sometimes.

One of The things I like about having investigators and not having to contact because of references is that I have learned to teach better because we spend the majority of the time teaching now. Our Zone is having some problems with following the schedule so that has been fun to deal with. ha we have to comp exchanges every week so that we can get to know the missionaries better and help them set goals and help them work on following the schedule to study. One thing that I never want to stop doing is studying the scriptures every day I know that the reason I need to get up early in the morning to study is so that I will be able to keep that habit for the rest of my life.

So Tate and Bradford are in the same mission aren't they? I washed my shirts today and every single one had bad pit stains... I do not know what to do about that because I washed them a second time with stain stick and if they stay the same I might be buying at least a couple of new shirts pretty soon. We play something called bitillas now instead of soccer because none of my housemates like soccer. I am sure it is on youtube if you want to see what it is like just type in Bitillas the dominican Republic  and there should be something there.

I love you Have a great week!

3/3/2014

I think my favorite thing is just working and doing it while communicating with my companion.  I love being in a house of four because I get to be really close with the other missionaries and it is way fun. I have enjoyed teaching them to cook pancakes and to make a dominican rice recipe. I have had to adjust a little bit here because a few of the investigators really want to get baptized, but they are young and we have had to repeat lots of things many times. I enjoyed the testimony meeting this last sunday. But I think what I liked the most was that I got to bless the sacrament for the first time in a while it was kind of funny because I have never been in a chapel that is very up to date. And I forgot there was a microphone like in the chaples where we live . I said the sacrament prayer without a mike and then felt kind of silly when the bishop almost asked me to do it again because I forgot the MIcrophone. My companion has 14 months, he is from Vera cruz and he is very quiet and very obedient we get along well although we are a little different from each other he likes computers and stuff like that alot and not sports and you know how I am with computers haha.I don't really have a favorite person.......... the ward mission leader is really cool at the end of the last ward council we had he offered the closing prayer and asked that the refreshments would be blessed. we were confused because it was nine at night and no one ever brings refreshments. and when he finished he pulled candy out of his pockets and everybody started laughing really hard. I am super happy to hear about Kaden I have written him a couple times and hope he is doing well. It is nice to here about how awesome brittan is doing I wish I could have seen him represent. I am happy and I believe God is happy with what I am doing. I Love you and hope work is going well I am glad the tournament wasn't too stressful this year. Love, Elder Bell

Het Dad Britt I am glad the tournament went well I am proud of Brittan that is really awesome! I am excited to have fun in the wrestling room when I get home haha hopefully missions don't get extended to three years because if I had the choice in this moment I think I would take My other year. So what you going to do instead of lacrosse? Tennis? or track? Baseball?:) that would be pretty cool I love you both have a great week!

2/25/2014

Well, Transfer calls happened last night and I am not with Elder Miranda anymore I will now have a companion from mexico named Elder Martinez. However, I will still continue in this area which is awesome because this area is totally awesome. One of the elders that was with us got called to go to coracao and that kind of made me miss being there ha. My president       knows a little bit of english his wife knows a lot more. I feel like he is more businesslike however I cannot sincerely say  I know because I haven't talked  with him that much. I was supposed to have an interview last week but there was an  emergency and he had to leave because a missionary was in the hospital.

Only one more week of wrestling season mom! whooo hooooo!haha just enjoy  it I miss it so much.. even though I understand that it is hard on you especially.

The baptisms did not follow thru this weekend, but we  moved the dates for march so that they could prepare themselves more and all get baptized together. I am loving the mission still I love my area and I will pray for the Parrish family... I can't really believe that that happened. Sometimes it is just confusing what happens in this life, but I know that this is just the test portion of our life and that  the  real blessings we receive are from when we enter into the next realm of life.I will definately be praying for   Ian  as that will be a difficult call  for him to receive.

I have liked Mark chapter 12 alot lately and2 nefi   25:29         Mark chapter twelve explains the dispensationsandthe apostasy really well. Love youmom I will most likely havepictures next week. LOve all of you I am so glad that allis well at home! LOveElder Bell

02/17/2014

I thank you for sharing that Vday experience  sounds just like dad hahahaa. I am going to start off answering your questions. I have not tried new food lately we actually even go to a mall on Mondays to eat Papa John's, The baptisms fell through for this months just because that family went on a vacation and we don't want to rush the baptism so we should have it on the eighth, but it really depends when they want to do it. No we have this plastic washer and a spinner to get rid of the extra water I am sure it would be easy to find a picture on google. I think everything is good with clothes, however I have been giving lots of ties away. We can't eat with members ever unless we help them make the food at a family home evening. Lots of members attend the ward around a hundred every week. Yes in many wards and branches there are two sets of missionaries. This place needs the support because there are not a bunch of proactive members. There are less members than where we live so there are more people to look for and we help capacitate members sometimes.

This last week was difficult because we didn't get any references and my companion seems to dislike contacting people whenever I mention it he starts to contact, but if people don't start to show interest immediately he totally shuts down the conversation and we move on .Besides that we are working hard and I feel like we are helping the ward.

I really liked the heart messages in the valentines day packages those were so much fun to read! As for scriptures I have enjoyed lately I am in the Isaiah Chapters in 2 Nephi I think starting in chapter eleven. I have really enjoyed understanding and learning more about those chapters. A scripture I have had in mind quite a bit lately is Eclesiastes chapter 3 verse 22. and also The section 21 of doctrine and covenants I like the verses from 8 to 10. I am learning a lot about the church and how it functions from the leaders and It has been nice to be around lots of missionaries again like how it was when I started the mission. I will have my second interview with the mission president tomorrow because it is our zones turn. I only have to wait two and a half more months to go to the temple again have been thinking about that a lot lately

.Love you mom. I hope your job keeps going well keep smiling these two months are probabably my favorties months from my life before the mission I just lived too stressed sometimes. I think I should have focused on the simple things and worried more about learning about the gospel and I would have been less stressful and more helpful and happy., I hope I can simplify my life later on so that I can be happy and focus on what is most important mainly my family. Love, Elder Bell

02/10/2014

Today at 1:00 PM  The miracle this week is that the goal for baptisms for the ward is 4 baptisms a month and last month there was only one baptism between us and the other two missionaries in the ward. So we need four baptisms to make up for the ones we didn{t have last months. First miracles was that last saturday a member who was here on vacation from mexico intoduced us to here daughters that have been coming to sacrament meeting for two weeks and we didn{t even know one is 20 and two are 18 they are twins and yesterday we put a baptismal date for february 22nd and they accepted now we just have to work hard to make sure they are ready for this saturday. And also there is a young women whose mother and little sister have been members for two years, but she has not wanted to commit to be baptized because she is struggling with a certain comandement and she is a little rebelious toward here mom. However she always goes to church and often to seminary. Well, yesterday she approached us and said she needed to talk to us. then she explained that she would like to be baptized on the 22nd. Which is a miracle we had been praying for. We had invited her to be baptized two weeks ago and she said she wasn{t sure.. so to not pressure her we left here alone for two weeks and because she kept going to church and seminary she felt the spirit change her heart and now she is ready. we will have four baptismal interviews this saturday if all goes well.

I Have enjoyed Dand C 50:10 through 14 and also I have been putting focus in the questions of the soul that are answered in the Book of Mormon. The preach my gospel book has a page in the book of Mormon section that has all the questions and it is a huge tool. Two days ago I was struggling with my study so that night in my planning I took out extra time to decide what to study and I felt the inmpression that I should study one of those questions I did not know which one, but I wrote it down as my plan and went to sleep. The next day I picked the question that states: What can I do to have more peace and joy in this life and in my family. I then read the 2nd chapter in mosiah which corresponds with that question and it was nice I did not think much of it I saw some scriptures in a different perspective and wrote down my thoughts. then we left to our first appointment  we had planned to explain what the purpose of the book of mormon is to a new investigator who is a single mom. as we read the third paragraph of the introdution something changed in her and she payed alot of attention to the words so we asked her what she was thinking. We thought she would respond something like...Jesus Christ came to the American continent? or What is the plan of salvation? but she suprised us both and asked. what does it mean have more peace in this life and in the coming life? from there I realized that God had shown me the answer she was looking for in the Book of mormon in the same chapter I was studying that morning . And that She was the reason I had felt I needed to study that question because that is exactly what she asked. If we take the time to think about what we should study before we rush and just read a chapter the gift of the Holy Ghost is permitted to guide us because we are using our agency in an appropriate manner. I have learned that if I am losing interest in my study or if I get sleepy it might just be because I am blindly studying without a spiritual goal our purpose and that studying the scriptures just to know the history or just to know where cool verses are at isnt enough. We have to study with the goal of spiritually preparing ourselves to share our testimony with others and if the spirit guides us. And trust me it was not a huge impression just a small thought that came into my mind after I sat peaceful for just a moment. We should take the small moments to plan for spiritual success and to plan to edify ourselves spiritually. I dont know if that sister will ever get baptized but I know I did my part in preparing and I know we all felt the spirit because of it.

Yes we are both Zone Leaders it is nice because we both work hard and study and we communicate well. I have learned a lot and still have a long ways to go in my communication with others. I got to give a talk in a leaders conference last week. About how to better comunitcation in a companion ship and it mostly came down to in the mission if we dont have study together plan together and set goals and study the language together then we will have more conflicts than needed. I am now study another question of the soul in alma chapter 39 which helps us know how to keep our families safe from the dangerous temptations that we face in our daily lives. Love you a ton have a great week.

02/03/2014

That´s a bummer that Denver lost... But I am glad you liked seatle´s uniforms mom ha :). I am glad to hear about bay and brit´s success. How is Brea?

So we have not had families to teach especially because people don´t legally get married here, and we had the coolest miracle happen this week. The elders in the area next to ours went contacting way outside of their area on accident and called us saying that they had references of people in our area and now we are teaching at least five families. I don´t think any of them are married, but at least the families paid attention and one of them went to church this sunday. I still get worried that I am going to get pulled out of this area after two transfers just like it always happens I would really like to stay here longer. I don´t know if I told you last week , but the young man named Roger that I was teaching in Los LLanos got baptized two weeks after I left and one of the priests in the youg mens group baptized him. I have been told that the young men and young women are being much more active and reverent now which has brought me a fairly large amount of happiness.

I haven´t done a very good job at writing anyone at home lately because I have been writing the young men and another member in los llanos I will be better at writing after that I hope.

Today we played soccer and went to a columbian restaurant let Aunt Connie Know she paid for some very good food and some very good juice called lulo juice. Is troy getting in good shape again? How is there gym? I am kind of excited to go see that after.

I have discovered something in the mission that I thought was a myth before... People from texas really are more prideful than normal people usually are haha I love them to death, but it is like they are never wrong and that if you don´t think they are the best state then you are against them. I have only lived with to people from texas so I am probably stereotyping, but it really seems that way.

Love you Mom and Dad give a hug to my brother and sisters for me!

1st week in Capital, Santo Domingo

So mom I started writing a response to questions from Cassidy's email and it was much longer than I thought. However I thought you would like it to so I sent it to you and dad.

A few other things I wanted to say I like the challenge you and Bay are doing you have a lot of support that way.

I like the fact that the only scripture we can bring into the celestial room is our patriarchal blessing. Our own book of scriptures with promises and counsel from the Lord. I have to comment I think it is super funny how happy people get about there phones especially like the new galaxy or an Iphone.. I am not talking to you exclusively when I say that, but I have just have so many experiences with that in the mission ..it is ridiculous ha. I hope I never go back to how I was with the phone again texting was a waste of time.

Anyways I love you a whole bunch I appreciate you so much for writing me faithfully you are the only one who has never missed a week keep on working keep on smiling the time with keep flying :) Love yu
